Does a quiet sun mean trouble?

April 25th, 2009 Comments off

The sun has hit a 100-year low in sunspot activity, with 50+ year lows in solar wind pressure and radio emissions. According to the linked article, when the sun has a “quiet” phase, it is followed up by a very active phase.

With that in mind, it is intriguing that the sun is becoming increasingly silent. This could mean that it is about to erupt in fury. In Revelation 16:8-9, the fourth angel pours out his bowl on the sun, causing the inhabitants of earth to be “scorched with great heat.” Soon the sun will be reign down fire on this planet. Thank God we Christians will be kept “out of” the great wrath that is coming upon the earth (Revelation 3:10; Luke 21:36)!

Swine flu outbreak kills scores of people

An outbreak of swine flu has killed 60 people in Mexico and infected no less than 7 in the United States, as of this writing:

US medical authorities expressed strong concern Friday about an unprecedented multi-strain swine flu outbreak that has killed at least 60 people in Mexico and infected seven people in the United States.”It’s very obvious that we are very concerned. We’ve stood up emergency operation centers,” Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) spokesman Dave Daigle told AFP.

One major source of concern was that the virus included strains from different types of flu.

“This is the first time that we’ve seen an avian strain, two swine strains and a human strain,” said Daigle, adding that the virus had influenza strains from European and Asian swine, but not from North American swine.

In 11 of 12 reported human cases of swine influenza (H1N1) virus infection in the United States from December 2005 to February 2009, the CDC has documented direct or indirect contact with swine.

But the seven known cases of the previously undetected strain in the United States — five from California and two from Texas — did not have contact with pigs. The seven people infected have all recovered from the flu.

“We have determined that this virus is contagious and is spreading from human to human,” the CDC said on its website. “However, at this time, we have not determined how easily the virus spreads between people.”

Diseases which originate in animals, such as this swine flu (a mutation from pigs), the avian flu (birds), and even AIDS (green monkey virus) will continue to increase before becoming a global catastrophe during the Tribulation (Revelation 6:8).

One in three children fear “environmental apacolypse”

April 24th, 2009 Comments off

A recent survey done on behalf of Habitat Heroes indicates that many children now fear environmental destruction on a worldwide scale. This is interesting because it is one of the signs Jesus said would proceed His return to earth.

Luke 21 is one of the gospel chapters that records Jesus’ list of signs proving His return was at the door (Luke 21:31; Matthew 24:33). In the midst of listing these signs, Jesus said in Luke 21:25-26: “There will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”

There will come a time during the Tribulation where God’s judgment will be poured out in the form of earthquakes, hurricanes, cyclones, and other violent storms (Matthew 24:7; Mark 13:8; Luke 21:11, 25; Revelation 6:6-8). This will cause great panic on the earth (Luke 21:26), yet amazingly men will still not repent and turn to God (Revelation 9:21).

In the end, Christ and His people will live on the earth forever and ever, for the world will never end (Ecclesiastes 1:4; Isaiah 60:21; Luke 1:32-33; Psalm 37:29, 104:5, 125:1; Matthew 5:5).

“Mystery booms” becoming frequent

March 31st, 2009 Comments off

It has happened again.

Sunday night (March 29) brought reports from the mid-Atlantic of a bright “mystery” flash followed by a loud boom.

A mysterious flash of light and loud boom occurred over the skies of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Va., on Sunday night, but just what caused the phenomenon is still unknown.

Calls from local residents to 911 began coming in at around 9:45 p.m. EDT, with some people reporting their doors and windows rattled when the boom went off, according to reports from WVEC-TV.

(Wakefield NWS forecaster Jeff Lewitsky) said meteorologists have looked back at their radar and lightning strike data during the time period and didn’t find anything that could explain the event. He also said they had received no more reports on the incident and no photos of the light streak have come in.

As of now, government officials and scientist cannot make up their minds as to the cause. At first it was a blamed on the remnants of a Russian space rocket falling to earth. Then the Air Force declared that they didn’t know what it was, but it certainly wasn’t man made. Now astronomers seem to believe that it was a meteor burning up and exploding as it entered the earth’s atmosphere.

It probably was a simple meteor–I have no idea. But aside from the major disappointment of missing this show, considering it happened right over top of my house, it does bring to mind some interesting stories from the last few weeks.
