A mammoth 7.8 earthquake struck just off the western coast of New Zealand today, creating a small tsunami.
Everyone knows Jesus spoke of many massive earthquakes happening just before He returns (Matthew 24:7; Mark 13:8; Luke 21:11). Often overlooked is that Jesus also predicted an increase in giant sea waves (Luke 21:25)–the exact description of tsunamis.
An earthquake rocked Yunnan province in China last night, collapsing at least 10,000 homes and leaving more than 300 injured. Meanwhile, in America, scientists have detected “mysterious vibrations” coming from a section of the San Andreas Fault known for producing killer quakes, including a massive 7.8 ground shaker in 1857. Scientists fear that these tremors indicate the fault is under heavy stress and may cause a devastating earthquake soon.
The frequency and severity of earthquakes has increased exponentially during recent years. There were six-times more super quakes (magnitude 7.0 and above) from 1997-2007 then in any other time period since modern quake calculations began in 1863. This trend will continue as we head into the Tribulation (Matthew 24:7, Mark 13:8, Luke 21:11). During the Tribulation the number and severity of earthquakes will be off the chart (Revelation 6:12, 8:5, 11:13, 19), leading up to the greatest earthquake in the history of man (Revelation 16:18), which occurs when Christ returns to set His feet on the Mount of Olives, causing a quake so powerful that the mountain will split in half (Zechariah 14:4).

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Friday morning in the Gulf of California, off the western coast of Mexico, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The quake’s epicenter was near the southern tip of Baja California, about 42 miles (68 kilometers) southwest of the city of Ahome in Sinaloa state and about 661 miles (1,064 kilometers) southeast of Tijuana. Tijuana is across the border from San Diego, California.
The temblor occurred at 5 a.m. local time (7 a.m. ET).

A 6.7-magnitude earthquake hit near the Greek island of Crete on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
It struck at 12:30 p.m. (5:30 a.m. ET), the USGS said. It was centered about 80 miles (130 kilometers) off the city of Iraklion on Crete, the USGS said.
An earthquake with a 6.7 magnitude is capable of causing significant damage, especially in areas of poor construction.

A strong earthquake jolted urban areas of Alaska on Monday, sending people diving under desks and huddling in doorways.
The U.S. Geological Survey said an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.7 struck near the town of Willow at 11:28 a.m. Monday. The epicenter was 58 miles from the state’s largest city, Anchorage, where the rumbled continued for several moments.
