Just yesterday we wrote of the flurry of earthquake and storm activity around the eastern Pacific Rim. This afternoon, two more powerful quakes–a 7.6 magnitude earthquake followed by one of 6.6 magnitude–struck within 15 minutes of each other. At the time of this posting a tsunami alert is in effect.
To repeat, among other signs Jesus gave so that we would know when His return is near, He mentioned earthquakes (Matthew 24:7; Mark 13:8; Luke 21:11) and violent storms coming from the seas (Luke 21:25).

Two strong earthquakes belted Japan this week, the first being a magnitude 6.5 quake that was followed up 5 days later by an even stronger 7.1 magnitude jolt. By comparison, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake in 1995 killed 6,400 people, so these are powerful movements of the earth.
Bad weather is hitting the Asian world as well, where over a million people in China have been forced to evacuate as typhoon Morakot is leveling houses, hotels, and other inhabitable buildings. In India, monsoon rains caused a landslide that has buried at least 43 people alive. Following a landslide in Taiwan, 600 people are missing. In Indonesia, the powerful Krakatoa volcano, which once killed 36,500 people during an eruption, has show signs of springing back to life.
Even the east coast of the United States was hit with an earthquake this week when a relatively minor 3.2 magnitude shaker was felt in North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee.

A future earthquake off Alaska could create giant killer waves that would strike ports and cities as far south as Los Angeles, British scientists warned today.
They said the risk of such an event was far greater than previously thought after analysing sedimentation along the coast.
It could dwarf the great 1964 Alaskan earthquake, which triggered waves more than 40 feet high.
Around 130 people were killed by the 1964 earthquake and tsunami, in Alaska, Oregon and California. There was also extensive damage to property across the US Pacific region.

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Friday morning in the Gulf of California, off the western coast of Mexico, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The quake’s epicenter was near the southern tip of Baja California, about 42 miles (68 kilometers) southwest of the city of Ahome in Sinaloa state and about 661 miles (1,064 kilometers) southeast of Tijuana. Tijuana is across the border from San Diego, California.
The temblor occurred at 5 a.m. local time (7 a.m. ET).

A 6.7-magnitude earthquake hit near the Greek island of Crete on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
It struck at 12:30 p.m. (5:30 a.m. ET), the USGS said. It was centered about 80 miles (130 kilometers) off the city of Iraklion on Crete, the USGS said.
An earthquake with a 6.7 magnitude is capable of causing significant damage, especially in areas of poor construction.

A strong earthquake jolted urban areas of Alaska on Monday, sending people diving under desks and huddling in doorways.
The U.S. Geological Survey said an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.7 struck near the town of Willow at 11:28 a.m. Monday. The epicenter was 58 miles from the state’s largest city, Anchorage, where the rumbled continued for several moments.
