Drug use continues to spread

May 28th, 2009 No comments

A record breaking cocaine bust comes to us from London.

A record-breaking haul of pure cocaine with a street value of more than £30million has been found hidden on a British lorry heading for .

The driver and a passenger were questioned by police on Thursday after being arrested in the South of on their way from .

Their lorry held 684kg of the drug – more than half a metric ton. This is almost double what British police usually seize in a year.

Ironically, Columbia University’s National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse released a report today claiming that the government does not spend enough money on drug prevention, despite the $375 billion (in addition to law enforcement and prosecution) that goes into the “war on drugs” every year. Perhaps too much money goes to the only legal pot garden in America, which is run by the federal government.

To repeat what we have said before, there are four verses in particular that speak of drugs in Revelation. Most English versions of the book use the words sorcery, sorceries, and sorcerer, but these are not accurate translations. Let’s look at the four verses briefly, using the New King James Version and a Greek dictionary.

Revelation 9:21: And they did not repent of their murders or their sorceries.

Revelation 18:23: For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived.

In both of the above verses, the Greek word rendered as sorcery/sorceries is pharmakeia, and means “medication store.” This is where we get our English word “pharmacy” from.  A pharmacy is a place where you go to get drugs.

Revelation 21:8: But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone.

The word sorcerers in this verse is the Greek word pharmakeus, and it literally means “druggists.” This where we get our English word “pharmacists” from.  A pharmacist is a person who sells drugs.

Revelation 22:15: But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.

In this verse, sorcerers is actually the Greek word pharmakos, and it is essentially an earlier form of the pharmakeus of Revelation 21:8. It means someone who is addicted to drugs, and gives us the English word “pharmacology,” or the practice of looking to drugs for an answer.

As an interesting side note, this pharmakos actually became a term for a pagan religion where a human scapegoat would be expelled from the city in time of crisis, in an effort to bring relief upon the land. Today, many people look to mind and emotion altering drugs to escape from the pressures of life.

Drugs are in the air in Spain

May 18th, 2009 No comments

The Associated Press (via USA Today) reports that drugs are so rampant in Spain, that residue from some of the more hardcore varieties are floating in the air.

Sniff the air in Barcelona or Madrid, scientists say, and you’ll inhale not only carbon dioxide but possibly cocaine, too.

Pollution plagues Spanish cities, but a new study reports the air in those two is also laced with drugs — notably cocaine.

The Superior Council of Scientific Investigations, a government institute, says on its website Thursday it also found traces of amphetamines, opiates, cannabinoids and lysergic acid, a relative of LSD, wafting through those cities.

Closer to home, CNN reports that the drug war between the cartels is about to spill over into American cities.

Home-based marijuana businesses gain market

April 13th, 2009 No comments

The NY Post reports that the at-home marijuana business has increased 60% (in the New York area) in the last 12 months. This trend will continue all across the world as more and more countries get hooked on drugs.  Believe it or not, the Bible mentions this as one of the last signs before Christ returns.
