China, Russia target US power grid
One day after a US government official warned of a growing threat from cyber attacks, Siobhan Gorman of the Wall Street Journal reports that spies from China and Russia have installed trojans onto the United States electrical grid:
Cyberspies have penetrated the U.S. electrical grid and left behind software programs that could be used to disrupt the system, according to current and former national-security officials.
The spies came from China, Russia and other countries, these officials said, and were believed to be on a mission to navigate the U.S. electrical system and its controls. The intruders haven’t sought to damage the power grid or other key infrastructure, but officials warned they could try during a crisis or war.
“The Chinese have attempted to map our infrastructure, such as the electrical grid,” said a senior intelligence official. “So have the Russians.”
The espionage appeared pervasive across the U.S. and doesn’t target a particular company or region, said a former Department of Homeland Security official. “There are intrusions, and they are growing,” the former official said, referring to electrical systems. “There were a lot last year.”
Many of the intrusions were detected not by the companies in charge of the infrastructure but by U.S. intelligence agencies, officials said. Intelligence officials worry about cyber attackers taking control of electrical facilities, a nuclear power plant or financial networks via the Internet.
Authorities investigating the intrusions have found software tools left behind that could be used to destroy infrastructure components, the senior intelligence official said. He added, “If we go to war with them, they will try to turn them on.”
Officials said water, sewage and other infrastructure systems also were at risk.
This could be used to fulfill a prophecy found in Jeremiah 51.
In a post earlier this week on the United States in Scripture, we referenced the three distinct Babylons of the Bible (the city; spiritual Babylon; and the end-time nation), and gave evidence why we believe that parts of Jeremiah 50-51 speaks of America.
From this perspective, the increasing cyber attacks from Russia and China are fascinating. In 2007, the Pentagon acknowledge that China had hacked into the US defense system. During the midpoint of the Tribulation, Russia will lead an attack against Israel (Ezekiel 38:8, 16; 39:1-2), prior to China leading a huge swarm of Oriental armies (Revelation 9:16; 16:12) into the Middle East. At this point, Russia will attack Israel’s only ally, the United States, with precision missiles (Jeremiah 50:9):
For behold, I raise and cause to come up against Babylon
An assembly of great nations from the north country,
And they shall array themselves against her;
From there she shall be captured.
Their arrows shall be like those of an expert warrior.
The north country in Bible prophecy refers to Russia, who leads “an assembly of great nations,” made up of the former countries of the USSR. Ezekiel 38 & 39 makes this abundantly clear, giving the Hebrew names for cities that are in present day Russia. Scripture even refers to the “prince of Rosh” (Ezekiel 38:2). Rosh is where we get the English word Russia from.
When Russia launches its attack against the United States, it will fire its “arrows,” or missiles, right over top of the North Pole, which is the shortest distance between Russia and the US.
What is fascinating about the cyber attacks is that Russia and China will have the ability to halt the electrical grid and stop all ways of communication, since virtually all present day communication is Internet and electrically based. This would fulfill Jeremiah 51:30-32, which indicates that the generals of Babylon will be terrified because they are unable to communicate with their armies.
