“Mystery booms” becoming frequent
It has happened again.
Sunday night (March 29) brought reports from the mid-Atlantic of a bright “mystery” flash followed by a loud boom.
A mysterious flash of light and loud boom occurred over the skies of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Va., on Sunday night, but just what caused the phenomenon is still unknown.
Calls from local residents to 911 began coming in at around 9:45 p.m. EDT, with some people reporting their doors and windows rattled when the boom went off, according to reports from WVEC-TV.
…
(Wakefield NWS forecaster Jeff Lewitsky) said meteorologists have looked back at their radar and lightning strike data during the time period and didn’t find anything that could explain the event. He also said they had received no more reports on the incident and no photos of the light streak have come in.
As of now, government officials and scientist cannot make up their minds as to the cause. At first it was a blamed on the remnants of a Russian space rocket falling to earth. Then the Air Force declared that they didn’t know what it was, but it certainly wasn’t man made. Now astronomers seem to believe that it was a meteor burning up and exploding as it entered the earth’s atmosphere.
It probably was a simple meteor–I have no idea. But aside from the major disappointment of missing this show, considering it happened right over top of my house, it does bring to mind some interesting stories from the last few weeks.
These so called “mystery booms” are becoming frequent occurrences, especially on the east coast. In the past 3 weeks alone, there have been at least five of these booms reported: Two in the Hudson Valley (March 8 & 10); one over Staten Island (March 16); one near Aiken, NC (March 20); and this one over Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina last night.
These increasingly frequent reports of booms that show up out of no where reminded me of a story from the UK Telegraph, under the pleasant headline, Unseen dark comets could pose deadly threat to earth.
The comets, of which there could be thousands, are not currently monitored by observatories and space agencies.
Most comets and asteroids are monitored in case they start to travel towards earth.
But Bill Napier, from Cardiff University, said that many could be going by unnoticed.
“There is a case to be made that dark, dormant comets are a significant but largely unseen hazard,” he said
Scientists estimate that there should be around 3,000 comets in the solar system, but only 25 have so far been identified.
The Bible has a lot to say about signs and wonders in space (Luke 21:11, 25; Mark 13:24-25; Joel 2:30-31; and many other verses), with some passages that seemingly describe the affects of a comet strike on earth. There will be a day during the Tribulation when comets arrive undetected to pound the planet. (Fortunately if you are saved, you will not be here.)
When I saw this latest space mystery mentioned during the 11 o-clock local news, the first thing that popped into my mind was the thought of the great war in heaven, partially described in Revelation 12:7-12:
And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”
Right now, God lives in the third heaven (2 Corinthians 12:2), while Satan is in charge of heavens 1 (earth) and 2 (space) (Ephesians 2:2; 2 Corinthians 4:4). But after this war in heaven is complete and Satan is cast to earth, he will physically incarnate the Antichrist and become diabolos, the devil in human flesh. This happens after the Antichrist is killed at the halfway point of the Tribulation (Daniel 11:45). Satan literally raises him from the dead (Revelation 13:12) and incarnates him (Revelation 17:8, 11). That is when things get really bad.
